Mountain CAP of WV, Inc., a CDC, offers free tax preparation to Upshur County residents as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

 

The VITA program was developed to aid low- and middle-income families in filing their tax returns for free, while focusing on the credits available to them. Some of the credits received by Upshur County residents included:

• Earned Income Tax Credit

• Child Tax Credit

• West Virginia Family Tax Credit

• West Virginia Senior Citizen Tax Credit

 

This free tax preparation service was provided for individuals and families whose total household income did not exceed $55,000 in 2018.
