Right From the Start (RFTS) is a statewide program committed to helping moms and their babies live healthier lives by offering home visits with a Designated Care Coordinator (DCC), either a licensed social worker or a registered nurse. Home visitation provides helpful information and support to pregnant women, new moms/dads, or other caregivers in the comfort and privacy of their own home. These visits teach them a variety of ways to have a healthy pregnancy, a safe and healthy home environment, to learn successful parenting skills, and to help them find resources to meet their needs or the needs of their child.
To be eligible for RFTS, you must:
-
be pregnant or have a child less than one year old,
-
live in the state of West Virginia, and
-
have a current, active Medicaid Card or medical coverage through the Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health (OMCFH).
Once you have a positive pregnancy test, obtain a proof of pregnancy and application for Medicaid. Complete the form and submit the application to your community Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).
If you are denied Medicaid and you are uninsured, your application will be forwarded to OMCFH to see if you qualify for RFTS through the Maternity Services program.
