"Creative Beginnings" Child Development Center

At Mountain CAP’s Child Development Center, we believe in the power of play to inspire learning, build confidence, and support every child’s growth. Our caring team creates a safe, nurturing environment where children explore, discover, and thrive—together with their families.

We follow the Creative Curriculum in our early childhood classrooms, which blends hands-on play with guided learning to help children develop socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Our Pre-K classroom, part of a collaboration with the Upshur County Board of Education, uses the Apple Tree Curriculum, offering a strong foundation for kindergarten and beyond.

Mountain CAP Child Development Center, also known as "Creative Beginnings," is proud to be the only Tier II quality-rated center in Upshur County. That means we’ve gone through an evaluation process to meet higher standards in key areas like curriculum, staff qualifications, and overall quality of care—showing our dedication to providing the best for your child.

We are open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., serving children from 6 weeks to 13 years old.

Here’s a look at what we offer:

  • Full-day care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers

  • A Pre-K classroom for the Tennerton area through our partnership with the Upshur County BOE

  • Before and after school care for Academy Elementary and Tennerton Elementary students

  • Care on no-school days, snow days, and during the summer months

We accept Mountain Heart subsidy payments as well as private tuition. Children enjoy nutritious and tasty meals and snacks daily, including breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack.

Each day, children take part in a mix of structured and free play activities. Weather permitting, they also spend at least one hour outside every day, staying active and exploring nature.

To keep parents connected, we use the Brightwheel app. This easy-to-use platform allows families to stay up to date throughout the day with real-time updates on their child’s activities. Teachers log diaper changes, potty breaks, meals, nap times, and share messages, learning activities, and photos—so you never miss a moment!

Your child’s safety is our top priority. All staff members are CPR certified, and our building features secure door entry and a video surveillance system.
