Asset Building and Collaboration Program

Each student referred to the program has individualized needs that are assessed and considered as the family creates program goals with the Social Worker. The ABC Program utilizes a risk and resiliency approach to address adverse childhood experiences in partnership with the family while creating opportunities for the children to experience positive childhood experiences. Social Workers work with the existing strengths of the family to remedy situations that prevent a child from learning and decrease behaviors that disrupt the classroom by assisting the child in practicing self-regulation skills.
The ABC Program provides advocacy and service coordination to children and families. Social Workers arrange interventions for the child and family to address identified needs in both the home and the classroom. The program connects families with community support and resources available to them. The program is voluntary and is free for families to participate in, as no insurance providers are billed for these services. This is a beneficial component, as it means that the ABC Program Social Worker can be part of a team of providers for a child without duplicating services if the child also participates in other support programs. The ABC Program does not provide parenting evaluations, nor do we offer our services for the purposes of providing recommendations for family court matters.
The Mountain CAP Child Advocacy Center offers an evidence-based, strengths-focused, wraparound program to students in families in Upshur and Lewis County schools called the Asset Building and Collaboration (ABC) Program. The goal of the program is to assist children and families in removing barriers to family stability and academic success. Any student in Upshur and Lewis county schools is eligible for the program.

All ABC Program Social Workers are licensed social workers in the state of West Virginia. As required for continued licensure, they complete continuing education credits annually to continue to build their social work skills.
